Why Davis Island?

Why do yall all call south core banks "Davis Island" or "Core Banks South" This is something i have never understood. Davis Island is a totally seperate island. Davis Island is actually located out of the mouth of Jarret Bay. It is about two miles south of the community of Davis and about a half mile across Jarrety Bay from Middens point. Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.
