Why Input on Proposed Legislation is Important

Why input to your US Senators and Reps, regardless of what state you live in, about the proposed legislation is important.

Look at Rylander’s statement on the proposed legislation.

"This attack on the laws that safeguard our parks and seashores could set a dangerous precedent," said Jason Rylander, attorney for Defenders of Wildlife. "Basing the management of Cape Hatteras on the desires of a handful of special interests would do a disservice not only to the wildlife and natural resources the seashore was created to protect, but also to the thousands of visitors who travel to the seashore to enjoy those same resources each year."

Here are some stats showing how we play into his "handful".

There were only 385 workbooks submitted related to the final CHNSRA ORV plan. Cape Lookout, as of about 4 days past their deadline, only had 73 workbooks submitted for their final ORV plan. As of yesterday only 423 comments on critical habitat have been submitted with the deadline 3 days away.

The dark side says. "Look judge, it can't be that big a deal; only a small group are worrying over this."

That I believe is at least part of where "handful" comes from.

So people; if only 4 – 500 folks total input to their Senators and Reps on this proposed legislation, the result will most likely be failure.
